A Golden Anniversary

Celebrating 50 years of service and opening doors for Alaskans, the evolution of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation represents a commitment to excellence, innovative advancements, and sound financial investments benefitting all Alaskans.

Transformative Accomplishments

It is astonishing to think how far we’ve come. In 1971, the legislature, along with a small group of 10 employees, had a shared vision and passion for helping Alaskans in need that laid the groundwork for present-day AHFC. Working with our critical statewide partners has brought notable expansion and fiduciary achievements to the forefront. Each decade marks a historic move forward and a future of possibilities.

Senator Lisa Murkowski

AHFC is founded on the mission of helping expand access to affordable, energy-efficient housing for Alaskans in every stage and walk of life……..”

  • “AHFC is founded on the mission of helping expand access to affordable, energy-efficient housing for Alaskans in every stage and walk of life—an incredible challenge and one of Alaska’s most pressing needs. As we reflect on AHFCs tenure in Alaska, I’m grateful for all they have done and continue to do in support of Alaskans, diligently serving communities across Alaska for 50 years. As Alaskans continue to face uncertainty and challenges surrounding COVID-19, their work is as important as ever. Whether it is distributing emergency rent and utility relief to struggling neighbors, ensuring new homes are built for essential employees in rural Alaska, aiding seniors in their journey to finding housing, or providing home efficiency resources to help keep Alaskans warm—their innovation and support for Alaska should be commended.”

said U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska.

Senator Dan Sullivan

Without the support of critical partners like Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, we might have seen thousands of Alaskans being evicted…..”

  • “Throughout this entire COVID-19 pandemic, our most important task, next to keeping Alaskans healthy and safe, has been keeping as many Alaskans connected with their employers and in their homes as possible. Without the support of critical partners like Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, we might have seen thousands of Alaskans being evicted, exacerbating the public health and economic challenges facing our state and country. AHFC’s work was also vital to keeping landlords and utility companies whole. I want to commend the AHFC team for their extraordinary work these past 12 months, which is really indicative of the great work AHFC has always done—for 50 years—providing housing security for more Alaskans at all stages of life, and in all corners of our great state,”

said U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska.

Representative Don Young

From Anchorage to Fort Yukon, Juneau to Utqiagvik, and beyond, AHFC's work has been vital to fighting homelessness and keeping roofs over families' heads.…..”

  • "50 years ago, the state legislature created the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation to meet the unique needs of our people. From Anchorage to Fort Yukon, Juneau to Utqiagvik, and beyond, AHFC's work has been vital to fighting homelessness and keeping roofs over families' heads. I am very proud of their diverse portfolio, which includes traditional housing and the expansion of infrastructure projects to aid community development efforts. The COVID-19 pandemic underscored just how valuable their work is. When the virus arrived, AHFC provided emergency rental assistance for families struggling to make ends meet. That's the story of AHFC. They're there when we need them, and Alaskans are better off because of them. Congratulations, AHFC, on your first 50 years. Here's to the next half-century!”
