Letter to the Honorable Governor Dunleavy 

Commemorating Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s 50th anniversary has been an extraordinary experience. It has been an odyssey of both extreme successes and challenges steeped in the spirit of “The Last Frontier.” Reflecting on the past, present, and future, our mission continues to be guided by a singular purpose: Serving the people of Alaska by providing access to safe, quality, and affordable housing.

    • Using the statutory formula that provides 75% of adjusted net income to the State of Alaska, calculated a dividend of $26.6 million

    • Purchased 1,968 residential loans (1-4 units) valued at $555 million

    • Facilitated closing of 47 Closing Cost Assistance loans totaling $11.8 million

    • Purchased 99 loans with a renovation option totaling $29.6 million

    • Alaska ranks as one of the top states successfully distributing emergency rent relief to those most vulnerable to housing insecurities; Wall Street Journal

    • Alaska was one of the first states to accept applications beginning mid-February 2021

    • FY2021 processed and paid 13,690 applications representing 35,053 Alaskan residents, and totaling $61,048,270.21 in Alaska Housing Rent Relief

    • Housed an average of 10,000 Alaskans per night in AHFC’s Public Housing programs

    • Assisted 12,500 homeless/at risk Alaskans for prevention of and immediate response to homelessness through $6 million in Homeless Assistance Program grants that were provided to 35 agencies

    • Improved energy efficiency to more than 262 homes through Weatherization

    • Delivered AK Energy Smart curriculum to more than 798 students statewide

    • Awarded 194 Emergency Housing Vouchers from HUD to assist individuals with a high risk of housing instability

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, working collaboratively with statewide partners immersed in homelessness prevention, distributed $61,048,270.21 in federal emergency rental assistance in the first six months of 2021.

Public Housing

Central to Alaska Housing Finance Corporation’s public housing program is the goal of helping work-able clients achieve success and self-sufficiency without a subsidy.

Planning and Program Development 

The planning and program development department manages several statewide rental development, homeownership, and supportive housing programs, and performs housing market research throughout the state.
